The Choir
Founded in 1970, Risca Male Choir has established an enviable reputation; the choir has not been afraid to experiment with and explore many musical styles. This diversity can be admired and enjoyed through its numerous recordings.
The choir's competition successes have included the title "Male Choir of the Year", winning the Welsh Choral Challenge shield, the National Eisteddfod and the Bronze Medal from the Malta International Choral Competition.
The repertoire of Risca Male Choir includes traditional material, operatic and music theatre items, and original compositions from the world of classical music. A highlight from the classical field was a much-acclaimed performance of Cherubini's Requiem in D minor for male voices and orchestra. The choir has given many première performances of works by contemporary Welsh composers, including particularly music by Mervyn Burtch and Richard Roderick Jones. A performance of Beowulf and Grendel, a large work by Mervyn Burtch for male voices and brass band, resulted in the choir being given the 1997 WS Gwynn Williams Award, recognising its contribution to music making in the community, and also its continued promotion of new Welsh music. In November 2000, Risca Male Choir was invited to perform the cantata Owain ab Urien as part of a centenary celebration of works by the Welsh composer David Wynne.
The choir is also famous for its unique theme concerts, one of which was turned into a feature length television programme. Other television appearances have included The Magic of the Musicals, which featured Bryn Terfel, Peter Karrie and Catherine Zeta-Jones, an appearance on the National Lottery's first birthday broadcast, and in the summer of 1998 a performance on GMTV's Breakfast Show. In January 2000, Risca Male Choir featured in the BBC Millennium Songs of Praise from the National Stadium in Cardiff.
In July 1999 the choir took part in a recording with the Black Mountain Chorus of Wales, Bryn Terfel and the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera. The CD called We'll Keep a Welcome was released by Deutsche Grammaphon in October 2000, quickly reaching Gold status. Following the recording both choirs performed at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff at the Wales/Canada rugby international.
Risca Male Choir has
undertaken many successful concert tours, including visits to France, Germany
and the Czech Republic. Three highly acclaimed visits to California have been
particularly memorable.

SWT Woodfalls Brass Band
Formed in 1874, The South West Trains Woodfalls Band is an established champion "British Brass Band". The band undertook to reprsent the English Army against the Scots in the recent "Highland Spirit" Tour of the south's major venues. They so impressed that they go on to play in the new Scottish tattoo at The Royal Albert Hall "Scotland Forever". A first class concert band and recommended listening.
Woodfalls is a small village in a rural location with less than one thousand inhabitants. From this small community, where musical talent is in abundance, we manage a junior band and a learners group. In addition, The Woodfalls Concert Brass exists to provide further opportunities for aspiring young brass players - it is currently graded in the UK Second Section.
Built in 1878, the band's headquarters is adjacent to the Methodist Chapel in the village of Woodfalls, 9 miles south of Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire in England.
Since1995, the band has enjoyed the sponsorship and support of the regional railway company South West Trains, a subsidiary of StageCoach Holdings PLC.

The Boyle-O'Dowda Irish Dance Academy
These champion dancers are taught by multiple world champion Alice Boyle-O'Dowda and are collected from several of her dance classes from the South of England. They have performed throughout the "Highland Spirit" Scottish Show tour in 2002 and wowed every audience with their exeptional footwork and routines.
The pinnacle of their dancing achievement to date was to be chosen by the Government, to dance at the 50th anniversary of the Council of Trade, Europe, in Strasbourg. They then were invited to meet the Queen at St. James Palace. Alice says "To the dancers, all the championships and TV appearances paled by comparison to meeting the Queen."

Piper Olivia McLennan
Olivia performing solo at the Royal Albert Hall
At just 21 Olivia is in her final year at City University, London, studying music. Her piping career has already had several highspots and she is a much sought after piper for solo engagments.
In 1998 on the 31st December she was chosen as the Hogmanay piper in Birmingham's Centenary Square - in front of 50,000 people. She followed top band 911 onto the stage to end the evening.
In 1999 she performed as the soloist for Amazing Grace at the Royal Albert Hall in the first Scottish Tattoo. She ended the year by being chosen as Salisbury District's millennium piper. Her piping of Auld Lang Syne was broadcast across the whole of the district on two radio stations. 2000 and 2001 have also seen solo performances at the Royal Albert Hall.
The Highland Spirit Tour of 2001 has really seen Olivia at her best. She pipes for the Highland Dancers, plays solo on the Scottish Small Pipes, accompanies a Gaelic singer on her small pipes and for good measure put together some Scottish music and assembled a String Quartet for the show - in which she plays Cello!
Olivia will also combine with the SWT Woodfalls Band during the evening to really get the evening going!
