I am pleased to say that by work between the police, County Rights of Way Officer, local Parish Councillors (the Champions) and the residents has improved sections of Green Lane and stopped developer lorries and general traffic from ‘mis-using’ the old airfield road as a cut through. I met with the Police, R.O.W Officer and Angus Beale the landowner of the Airfield Road land some months ago. The aim was to close the ‘new hole’ in the fence that permitted this through traffic, onto Green Lane. Angus Beale stated that the ‘entrance’ was legitimate and historical. Despite the doubt, it was agreed that he would provide a gate and only his own users would have the key. (Not sure why they could not use the proper entrance gate with a key!) Anyway, in return, the police and I said we would promote the idea of the Ford residents, policing the airfield road for dog fouling etc, as this was Mr Beale. Main difficulty. The police and I did our bit through our newsletters and residents took the car numbers of ‘mis-users’, who illegally entered Green Lane. The Police sent them a warning letter and the bulk of vehicles declined. However, Mr Beale never did his gate and still some vehicles persisted at night. I asked the Rights of Way officer if there was anything he could do to block the entrance and lo, large dragon’s teeth now block the exit onto Green Lane. Justice served! …………………. Green Lane to Hampton Park (Pearce way) All the councils have long been concerned at both the state of the Pearce Way end of Green Lane and also the fly tipping. The Parish have considered and requested permission to place posts at the entrance, to stop vehicular access. Suddenly, out of the blue, the R.O.W officer worked his magic and blocked the entrance and did some improvement work to this section. Well done and thanks Nick Cowan of WCC. Painting a line along Roman Road Residents have long been taking their life in their hands to walk along Roman Road, where the main housing is located. As a result of the Cycleway through Laverstock ‘paint job’, a Ford resident alerted me to a scheme near Andover, where pedestrians were helped by a white line being painted on the road, to give vehicles the idea of keeping clear. I have asked the Salisbury Joint Transport Officer (Tom Gardner) to see if this could be done for Roman Road. He is kindly investigating it. Local Development Framework Ford, as you will know, is spared direct building and is to be kept as a rural haven in the Parish. However, the strategic gap looks to be breached (separating Hampton Park) and that requires close attention. The ‘Country Park’ would be a huge gain, for many reasons. However, it could also provide a footpath/cycleway/bridleway stretch at Roman Road. The drainage on Ford Lane also needs sorting as part of the exercise. Definitely no road from Hampton Park to Roman Road and good landscaping also needed. Parish Plan The plan is ratified and involves Ford residents as well. Get involved if you can!
